A blogpost from http://dpp-kspsi.blogspot.com explained that Andi Gani Nena Wea is a person who cares for the labors’ fate. The third son of former Minister of Manpower, Jacob Nuwa Wea, is believed to lead the organization of Federation of Trade, Bank, Service, and Assurance Workers’ Union, Confederation of All Indonesian Workers’ Union (KSPSI) which members are up to 5 million people.
However, for progressive groups of workers’ union, Andi Gani is considered as a moderate leader who frequently compromised with the government and bargained the labors. On the recent May Day of 2015, a leaflet from Indonesians’ Opposition Center (PPRI/ Pusat Perlawanan Rakyat Indonesia) criticized Andi Gani who is claimed to call off of labors’ struggle to have a national strike in 2014.
“Secondly, in the plan of national strike (Monas/ Mogok Nasional) on December 3, 2014. The three confederations are the reasons to call off of labors’ struggle with delaying then cancelling the plan after President KSPSI, Andi Gani got a phone call from President Jokowi,” as quoted from PPRI leaflet on May Day 2015.
Andi Gani has been elected by acclamation as the Chief of KSPSI in the Eighth Congress of KSPSI that held in Twin Plaza Hotel in Jakarta, February 19, 2012. At that time, there was a dualism occurred in KSPSI Congress.
Beside the Congress that held in Jakarta, KSPSI Congress was also held in Malang. The supporter of Jakarta Congress claimed that its legality has became stronger and supported by up to 80% of the members, there are: 22 DPD KSPSI, 139 DPC, and 9 workers’ union from the total of 14 workers’ union of KSPSI.
Beside that, the supporter of Malang Congress who didn’t want to lose, claimed to be supported by Coordinating Ministry for Social Welfare (Menko Kesra), Agung Laksono, 25 DPD, 14 Workers’ Union Alliance (SPA/ Serikat Pekerja Aliansi), 5 administrators of DPP, and 8 administrators of Organization Planning Committee (MPO/ Majelis Perencanaan Organisasi) and 430 Branch Councils (DPC/ Dewan Perwakilan Cabang).
In the Presidential Election (Pilpres) of 2014, Andi Gani supported Presidential Candidate and Vice Presidential Candidate, Joko Widodo and Jusuf Kalla with initiating a supportive organization, named ‘Buruh Sahabat Jokowi’ (Labor Friends of Jokowi). No wonder if in the end, Andi Gani elected as BUMN Commissioner of PT Permbangunan Perumahan Tbk.
